Snowflake Race #1 Route10.1 miles, 1:57:57Snowflake Race #1. Crewing on the Takaya was an experience since it was the first time I've been on a boat that put up the spinnaker. It was a wonderful day even though we came in last in our division.
Last of the fall series of races from the Bowen Island Yacht Club. This was actually the first time that I have finished a race within the time limit (4 hours) finishing a respectable 5th out of 7 starters. This track is just the actual race. The race was 10.3 miles and took 3:48:07 to complete. There was good wind apart from the final 1 mile of the course which took 1 hour.It was great to have a crew Mike and Valencia for company and great help. The only real mistake that happened was right off the start when we had a knot in the port jib sheet which delayed us 5 minutes pointing into the wind to get it undone.

13.5 miles, 2 3/4 hours. Sailing back from Gibsons round the far side of Bowen. Great wind, but large swells made a beam reach a little tricky to sail. Pacific White-Sided Dolphins swam with us for a few minutes south of Bowen.
6 hrs, 10.4 miles attempting to complete the race. There was a 4 hour time limit so I didn't finish again. There was no wind coming south on Howe Sound so I ended up turning on the engine. More wind further south.
Solo Sail 15 miles, 4 1/2 hours. Practicing for the race tomorrow when there was wind. When there wasn't, I swung the boat around to check out the compass.
