Solo Sail June 16, 2011 Route
June 16, 201114.4 miles, 3:17:30Beautiful evening sail with lots of good wind pushing speeds up to around 6 knots. Got the spinnaker wrapped around the forestay at the end of the trip ... not a good feeling, but got the sail unwrapped and back under control.

Round Bowen 2011 Division Results
16th out of 16th ... there is always room for improvement
Round Bowen 2011 Route
June 11, 2011 - Round Bowen IslandAnnual Round Bowen Race - 2011 with Doug and ValenciaRace Time and Distance: 7:04:16 - 24.3 milesTotal Time and Distance: 8:14:57 - 26.4 milesVirtually NO wind at the start made for a very slow start with most boats pulling out their spinnakers. Half way down Howe Sound the wind really picked up and made for an entertaining ride. From Cape Roger Curtis to Finnister Island we had the spinnaker up and were hitting 6.5 knots. The time limit for the race was 7:30 so for the first time I actually made it within the time ... from my rating the adjusted time for the race was 6:25:09. I ended up coming 16 out of 16 in my division. From the early results there were 89 boats racing. I crossed the line 81st out of the 89, but with my corrected time I came in 61st out of 89 ... not too bad for only my 2nd time in the race.

Il Moro
Il Moro - First in a series of boats for the America's Cup 1992 ... can't complete against this boat.Il Moro di Venezia I (ITA-1) sailed as a trial boat for two years and competed in the 1991 IACC World Championships, later becoming the sponsor platform for the syndicate. In 1994 she was bought by a Russian team that raced her in the 1994 IACC World Championships but never made it to the 1995 Louis Vuitton Cup competition. Repossessed by a bank, she was bought in 1998 by a Chicago businessman who installed an engine and sailed her for a couple of years in San Diego before she once again fell victim to the bank. Tina Kleinjan and John Sweeney bought her in 2001, adding her to their fleet of IACC boats in San Francisco. They completely restored her with new paint and rigging and raced her against other IACC boats in San Francisco bay. She was sold for the last time in 2006 and is currently moored in North Vancouver.

Heading To Race Rocks
June 1, 2011:3.3 miles, 1:03 Taking the boat over to Race Rocks to fix what I thought was a bad transmission and it turned out to be a bearing on the propellor shaft. Could only manage a few knots under motor power, but 5 knots with the sails and the wind. Unfortunately Race Rocks is going to be the boat's home for a week.
